OC READY FOR HOME RACE

Tom Onslow-Cole races on home-soil this weekend as the 24H Series heads to Silverstone International Circuit just 20-miles from his Buckinghamshire base and he and RAM Racing are looking to take a home victory in the 12-hour race.

It will be the second time OC has raced in the Silverstone long-distance endurance event, but the first time in a GT3, as regulations have opened it up to the front-running machines for the first time this year.

“Last time I did this race, it was for the full 24 hours and it was in a MARC Cars V8 Ford Focus,” commented OC, who is partnered with premium exhaust manufacturer Milltek Sport. “Although it was mega to get back in a touring car, the conditions were terrible – it was probably the worst rain I’ve ever seen and I’ve raced at the Nürburgring and Spa! We’re certainly praying for better weather this weekend.

“Silverstone GP circuit is a mega track and, even though it’s so close to home, I’ve only raced it in recent years following my switch to GTs. Last year, I raced here in International GT Open and managed to take the Pro-Am class pole position… a repeat of that would certainly start the weekend off nicely!”

The 12-hour race takes place over two days, with five hours of competition on Friday and seven on Saturday. OC will once again race alongside Remon Vos (NL), with whom he took a podium result in Imola 12 Hours last year.

“We’ll do this race with just the two of us,” commented the Rockstar Energy Drink Athlete. “Remon is beginning his second year of GT3 racing but, on pace alone, you’d think he’d been racing longer. We just need a clean 12 hours and we’ll have a good chance of another podium this weekend.”

It was a tight turn-around for the RAM Racing crew, whose Mercedes AMG GT3 only returned from Dubai 24 Hours on Sunday due to a shipping delay. With a fair bit of fire damage from the Middle Eastern event, the strip-down and rebuild process was lengthened as the team has to ensure no damage was overlooked.

“They build the Mercedes AMG GT3 really well so, although the fire at Dubai looked big, the damage isn’t so bad. The team have still had their hands full though, this has been a very quick turn-around. RAM Racing is one of the most meticulous crews I have ever worked with, so I have no doubt the car they have delivered here today is prepped to perfection. A big shout out to them for the hours they’ve put in this week to get us here ready to race,” concluded Casio Edifice brand ambassador OC.

Practice for the event takes place at 09:00 on Thursday with qualifying and the first part of the race on Friday at 09:45 and 13:00, respectively. Battle resumes at 10:30 Saturday. Both qualifying and the race are streamed for free in the #StayInSync section of this website.
