Tom Onslow-Cole returns to Dubai 24 Hours, this weekend, eager to beat his second-place best result and add another 24-hour GT3 race victory to his ever-growing CV.
The Milltek Sport-sponsored Londoner, who finished the 2016 season with a 24-hour race win in the Ferrari 488, is hoping to start 2017 with another endurance race win, this time in the Mercedes AMG GT3.
“I’ve finished Dubai 24 Hours in second place overall in the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 so I’d love it if I could go one better in the new car,” he commented. “As we all know, 24-hour races are extremely tough, so the wins taste even sweeter... I’ve tasted 24H victory twice and I’m hungry for more.”
Once again, the Rockstar Energy Drink Athlete will join SPS Automotive Performance in the IMG World of Adventures Dubai-liveried machine. Valentin Pierburg (DE), Lance David Arnold (DE) and Tim Müller (DE) complete the four-driver line-up that will contest the Pro class.
“I feel I’m going into the race the most prepared I’ve ever been, and that’s echoed by the entire team,” OC said. “The car, track and event aren’t new to anyone at SPS Automotive Performance - we’re all experienced here. That said, there are some very strong teams and driver line-ups in the race, so it’s important that we can ‘hit the ground running’ when we get to Dubai Autodrome.
“It’ll be a big challenge for us to win the race, but it’s certainly the goal,” added OC, who took a podium at the 24 Hours of Paul Ricard with the team, last season. “We’ll all aim to have a clean run and make sure we always put ourselves in the best position as the race develops. SPS Automotive Performance is a fantastic team and I’m sure they will make all the right strategy calls... Having confidence in your team is definitely worth a couple of tenths!”
SPS Automotive Performance is a Stuttgart-based team that has raced in Blancpain GT Series and 24H Series and, being the only Brit in the team, OC was keen to learn some German during the Christmas holidays.
"Guten Morgen, darf ich bitte eine Tasse Tee mit Milch haben? Danke.” OC concluded.
Tom and the team will first turn the wheel of the Mercedes AMG GT3 on Wednesday for the private optional test before the official test session begins on Thursday. Qualifying and night qualifying also take place on Thursday before the race begins on Friday.
Qualifying and the race will be livestreamed at
www.24hseries.com and fans can follow Tom on his social media channels.
