OC SMASHES FIA WORLD RX TALENT SEARCH

Professional GT racing driver Tom Onslow-Cole (GB) proved he's not a one trick pony today when he won the FIA World Rally Cross (RX) Championship's inaugural RX Talent Search, landing him a drive in the Turkish round of the RX Lites championship in October.

Up against drivers from a wide range of motosport disciplines, including rallying, OC knew the competition was tough, especially as he had never driven a rally cross car before.

"I knew that the rally boys would be quick – they were my biggest competition," he commented. "It was a completely new bit of kit for me to learn but I'm used to jumping in different cars and driving fast... well, at least trying to!"

The 12 competitors all drove a 310bhp mid-engined RX Lites car, which is designed by Olsbergs MSE in co-operation with Avitas Motorsport, on Lydden Hill Circuit and, as well as being marked on pace and driving skill, they were grilled by a panel of judges who were looking for the best driver to represent the championship on a global stage.

"Overall, I think the best man on the day won," commented Martin Anayi, World RX Manager. "Tom will do a very good job of promoting our sport but, most importantly, will have a very strong chance of winning RX Lites."

OC is no stranger to the sport as he attended the British round of the World RallyX Championship in 2014 as a guest of fellow Rockstar Athlete Tanner Foust.

"I think I'll be putting a call in to Tanner for some tips ahead of the main event in October," added OC. "World RX is a fantastic championship, which is taking the world by storm, so to be a part of it is awesome.

"Rally cross has always excited me and I've always wanted to have a go but it's not always that easy to just pick and choose what you want to do. Winning this prize puts me on a platform within the sport that I can then go and build on - I'd love to do more after this. I want to say thanks to the guys at World RX for inviting me to be a part of this."

Tom now returns to GT racing in the 12 Hours of Zandvoort on 30 May where he will race his Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 with top International racing team Ram Racing.
