Tom Onslow-Cole has finished the first of two Le Mans Cup ‘Road to Le Mans’ races in fourth place with RAM Racing and team-mate Remon Vos (NL).
The Milltek Sport-sponsored driver qualified the #5 Mercedes AMG GT3 on the second row of the grid. With straight line speed down compared to some of his rivals, OC had to use his race skills to battle in the Circuit de la Sarthe’s medium-high speed corners. Despite a four-way battle for third taking place over most of his stint, OC came out on top and pitted in a podium position.
Team-mate Vos took over and, after a two-minute minimum pitstop, he emerged in third place but with a pack of four cars within a couple of seconds of his rear bumper. The Dutch driver, who has only previously contested two GT3 races, did a fantastic job and at the end of the 55-minute race the team was awarded fourth place.
“That was seriously impressive stuff from Remon,” commented OC, as he put on his Rockstar Energy Drink cap. “I’m not going to lie, it was tough out there – our straight line speed was down on the others but, in the corners and over a whole lap, the Mercedes is fast We had to battle hard in the corners to get ahead and retake positions.
“This year was supposed to be a learning year for Remon but here we are battling it out for a podium at the biggest race of our season on the most famous track in the world. I’m pretty sure a podium will come for us very soon but, until then, we’ll take the points towards our championship campaign and focus on the next race.”
Race two of the Road To Le Mans takes place at 11.30 on Saturday, just ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.  Fans and the media can follow OC on social media using @tomonslowcole.
